Tax time on our (semi-rural) urban homestead

Titania offers her help with the year-end taxes

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. Time to bare all for the IRS.

It’s fortunate that our (semi-rural) urban homestead now comes complete with chickens to cheer us all up!

Da Girlz are getting so big. We take them out to stretch their legs and wings, and let them run around the sunroom. They pick at the dark spaces where the floor meets the walls and generally make us all laugh. They’re rather desperate to get into the seedlings, so we share some lettuce sprouts with them here and there. Also bits of oatmeal and yogurt. Parsley piqued their interest, ever so briefly, and this morning Prim tracked down and swallowed up a lone ant.

Can’t wait to let them wander about the great outdoors here at our (semi-rural) urban homestead!

The seedlings are growing too, and I have been kind of neglecting them. Some of them are looking a wee bit spindly.

They remind me of the kids and the end-of-the-school-year phenomenon of high-water pants.

Instead of running out to buy more pots, I’m going to dig into the recycling and scavenge some good pot-like containers to give these guys more room to grow and flourish! I figure old soda cans, juice bottle bottoms, and who knows what else should work great for free and for now.

That’s just one of the ways I try to keep my little (semi-rural) urban homestead sustainable and thriving!

Time now for some gratuitous chicken pictures!

All five chicks hanging out on my legs looking oddly symmetrical.
